~~~~Courtesy Is All That Matters~~~~
Courtesy is a simple act but somehow many people refuse to exercise good manners and politeness. It can simply mean that they are either selfish or rude, maybe both.
Adults who are supposed to show this model behavior to kids are the ones who need some education on being considerate.
If you want to have a successful marriage, develop great relationships with your clients, friends and coworkers, you must practice good manners. If you care about how your kids grow up and behave towards others, you should set the correct example and become a role model. Kids behave according to what they see in adults especially those they look up to.
If you want to know your true colors, notice your behavior when you are among strangers. A courteous person is not one who has to sacrifice her own needs to make someone else happy. It is also not about trying to meet the social needs or the norm although that is expected.
It's actually a trait that adds to your character and identity. Wouldn't it give you a great feeling to know that you are an eloquent person from you speech and behavior? Can you imagine how others will react to you and the kind of openings you are allowing yourself to experience? Don't you think that would help make you feel worthy?
Many people want respect from others but they won't give it. And being well mannered is one of the simplest acts to attain that.
"Courtesy is a science of the highest importance. It is opening a door that we may derive instruction from the example of others, and at the same time enabling us to benefit them by our example, if there be anything in our character worthy of imitation." - Michel De Montaigne
A List of Good Manners
  • Saying "Please" and "Thank you."
  • Smile. If it comes from your heart, it can really brighten up someone's solemn day.
  • Listening attentively. If you are careless about it, you will waste more time and energy in trying to mend misunderstandings.
  • Assisting the disabled or weak in simple ways like helping them cross the road, opening doors or offering your seats.
  • Giving compliments, offering kind words and delivering polite gestures.
  • Controlling and managing your moods and temper.
  • Chewing your food with your mouth closed.
  • Switching off your mobile phone in cinemas and during meetings.
  • Apologizing for your mistakes and when you keep people waiting.
  • Not to spit in public places.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or handkerchief when you sneeze or cough.
There are many more that you can think of. If courtesy is your way of life and being considerate and polite are your natural tendencies, you don't have to think much about it. You'll just be. It's up to you to choose how you will act. Your choice will affect the quality of your relationship and your life.
